KEYBOARDS & SYNTHETIZERS
| Fatar Keys CMS-161 | ||
| Jonny started to use it in 1997 for the OK Computer Tour. It’s a five-octaves midi controller used to play sampled sounds for songs like Lucky, Street Spirit, Exit Music, Airbag and many others. The sounds from the CMS-161 are passed through a Small Stone Phaser (identical to the one used for guitars) in Talk Show Host. |

| Akai S3000XL | ||
Samplers used by Jonny
to play samples for the CMS-161. Jonny uses two of them because
one is designated to an entirely sampled Mellotron (used in
studio starting from the OKC period). During the OK Computer
tour they were placed under Jonny’s other keyboards but now they
are offstage and probably operated by roadies. Recently RH
adopted S5000 samplers.
| E-Mu Classic Keys | ||
| A unit
used by Jonny to access sounds or to filter and tweak those
stored in the samplers. He had two of them, one for each Akai
S3000XL. |
| Moog Rogue |
| A famous synthetizer
from the 70s. Recognizable in MPIE while the band tries to record
Big Boots/Man o’War and used live for the first time during the
Iberian tour on the early performances of Where I End and You Begin. |
| Analogue Systems French Connection | ||
| A device
that, once fed with a sine wave, allows to replicate the
control typical of an Ondes Martenot and to exploit its capabilities
of glissando and vibrato effects. Jonny also uses the keys of
the standard keyboard instead of the Korg Prophecy on Talk Show
Host and Lift. The French Connection has been ordered by Jonny from Analogue Systems. He already had an Ondes Martenot-like synthetizer (which can be seen on SNL 2000) but he probably wasn’t completely satisfied with it. Between 2000 and 2001 Analogue System developed a Ondes Martenot emulator and delivered it to Jonny for the 2001 tour. The sine wave is provided by an RS Integrator (not pictured). |
| Hammond XB2 Digital Organ | ||
| A digital version of the famous organ from the late 80s. Used by Jonny for Nude/Big Ideas as you can see in Meeting People is Easy. |
| Korg Prophecy |
| A well
known and versatile monophonic keyboard used by Jonny to
play leads on songs like Talk Show Host and Lift. Now it’s
no longer used. |
| Fatar Keys SL-161 |
| A midi keyboard used by Jonny during the
period of The Bends. Now dropped in favour of CSM-161. |
| Korg Prophet |
| A sequential circuits vintage synthetizer. Used by Jonny during the attempt to record Big Boots/Man
o' War shown in Meeting People is Easy. |
| Ondes Martenot | ||
| An instrument developed by the french telegraphist Maurice Martenot towards the end of the 20s. It’s a six-octaves instrument played through a ring moved along a string. Its peculiarity is the fact that the note played is given by the difference of frequency of two generators and this keeps the note played on the string the same of the corresponding key of the keyboard. The sound is amplified by 4 devices: a principal loudspeaker, a reverb loudspeaker, a metallic gong and a "palm" with strings. Ondes Martenot has been used by Jonny while recording The National Anthem on Kid A and used live only during the show for Canal+ on 28-04-2001. |
| Analogue Systems RS8000 Integrator
Analogue Systems RS8500X Integrator |
The analog modular synth used for Idioteque. Engaged by a LS2 Line Selector. |
| Another analog modular synth
used on Sit Down Stand Up in 2002. Basically an RS8500 with custom modifications. |
Analogue Systems RS2000
Sequencer |
An analog
sequencer used to control the RS8000. Basically it makes impulses
that, fed into the real synth, trigger different
VCOs that play like different parts of a drum kit.

PIANOs
| Rhodes
Suitcase Piano Mark I 73 |
This famous electric piano is used on Let Down, Paranoid Android and Karma Police (before they adopted an upright piano in 2000). |
It features 73 keys, bass, treble and vibrato controls. It's amplified using the typical cabinet of the Suitcase model. |
an Upright Piano |
a Celeste |
Adopted in 2000 and used on Karma Police and on Life in a Glasshouse in the only performance ever done (Jools 2001). It's a Yamaha model but can't say which one... :-( Used by
Jonny at the Maida Vale
acoustic concert. The celeste is basically a glockenspiel played by piano-like hammers operated by keys and it's quite common in orchestras. |
