Jonny Greenwood

GUITARS

Fender Telecaster Plus

This particular model has been produced from ’89 to 94’. It features a Blue Lace Sensor pick-up in the neck position and a Dual Red Lace Sensor pick-up (acting like an humbucker) in the bridge position with a relative toggle switch which has been removed and replaced with a cut-off switch. There are
also unknown rewirings made by Jonny and Plank, the band’s main guitar technician.
Jonny currently uses Dunlop Nylon
.60mm and .38 mm picks.

Fender Telecaster Plus (converted)

Originally Jonny had two models of Tele Plus, purchased probably after they signed with Parlophone (December 1991), up to the theft in Denver (October 1995) when Jonny’s main Tele Plus (right pictured) was stolen. His back-up Tele Plus probably became his main guitar while a back-up is now provided by a standard Telecaster turned to a Plus (recognizable because the bridge pick-up is placed in the same plate of the bridge, left pictured). A cut-off switch has also been added.

Fender Starcaster

A rather rare and obscure guitar produced during the late 70s and featuring a semi-hollow body, two humbucking pick-ups and a beautiful asymmetrical shape. It’s been picked up during the late The Bends era for Street Spirit and used for the first time on record for Subterranean Homesick Alien, Let Down, The Tourist and then on almost all the songs from Kid A and Amnesiac.

AMPLIFIERS

Vox AC30

Jonny's amps on stage

A famous tube amplifier and a favourite by Radiohead in general. Used for clean tones, it receives the whole path of his pedal effects bar the Shredmaster.

Fender Eighty-Five

A small solid state amplifier from the 80s. Its clean channel is used by Jonny for the most distorted tunes.

Fender Deluxe 85                                                                                                                  Fender Twin Reverb

Another solid state amp from the 80s
used in the early years.
Now has been completely dropped
in favour of  Fender Eighty-Five.

A tube amplifier occasionally
used for clean sounds before
he definitively adopted the Vox AC30.
