Jonny Greenwood

GUITAR  EFFECTS

Jonny’s effects have remained almost the same since OK Computer.
His pedals are found on two flightcases and powered by Voodoo Lab Power Pedal units.

      Digitech Whammy WH1                                                                                                 Demeter Tremulator

A famous pitch-shifter used by Jonny
for My Iron Lung, Just, Subterranean
Homesick Alien and to achieve weird
noises like in The Bends and Airbag.

Jonny's obscure tremolo pedal
was supposed to be homemade but
it's probably a prototype of a Tremulator
or a normal one with a few modifications.

Dod 440 Envelope Filter                                                                                        Electro-Harmonix Small Stone

The green version of this discontinued
envelope filter
is used on Lucky,
Subterranean Homesick Alien
and Paranoid Android.

A famous phase-shifter pedal. Jonny’s version
is the second issue of the original Small Stone.
Used mainly on Fake Plastic Trees and Paranoid Android.

Akai E1 Headrush                                                                                           Boss SD1 Super Overdrive

Adopted by Jonny since the Iberian Tour.
Its use is not very spread, it could be
used as a loop recorder or as a
back-up for the RE-201.

Used by Jonny for crunchy tones in songs
like Lucky, The Tourist and I Might Be Wrong.
It’s probably also used to achieve high-volume
related noises like those in Morning Bell.

Boss RV3 Digital Reverb/Delay                                                                                         Boss LS2 Line Selector

Used by Jonny for reverb and
simple delay.

Used to divide the signal.

Boss FV300H Volume Pedal                                                                                              Marshall Shredmaster

Used as a gain controller for
the Shredmaster.

Produced in the early 90s, it’s always
been used for the most distorted tracks.
Jonny’s one has been probably modified
by Plank to achieve more gain.

Roland Space Echo RE-201
A vintage tape machine for delay and reverb effects. Used very often by Jonny to create heavy echo effects with flutter and modulation on a variety of songs like Subterranean Homesick Alien, Airbag, Exit Music (for a film), In Limbo and Packt Like Sardines in a Crushd Tin Box. The Space Echo, since it’s not a pedal, gets turned on and off using a Vox Silver Egg footswitch similar to the one pictured.

Mutronics Mutator

An envelope filter rack unit issued in 1996. Jonny used it to record the 4th movement of Paranoid Android: he recorded the solo dry then he ran it in the Mutator twice while playing with the settings. The Mutator has never been used live since Jonny uses his DOD 440.

KEYBOARDS & SYNTHS EFFECTS

Jonny uses effects also on his keyboards and synths. They're placed on a board below the racks where the keyboards are.

Akai E1 Headrush Delay                                                                                          Boss RV3 Digital Reverb/Delay

A delay machine used probably to give more sustain or to double notes
of the French Connection and to sample and playback the riff that is repeated
over and over at the end of How to Disappear Completely when the band leaves the stage.

Probably used to add reverb.

Electro Harmonix Small Stone                                                                                       Boss FV 300L Volume Pedal

Used on the sampled sounds for Talk Show Host. During the
outro of the song Jonny continously turns the rate knob
to get those weird sounds out of the keyboards.

Used to regulate the volume of the output.
Since it's placed (arguably) before effects it could be either a FV 300H.

Boss LS2 Line Selector                                                                                       Boss FS 5U Momentary Footswitch

Used to engage keyboards.

Used by Jonny to sustain notes from the midi controller.
